Crawford Adjuster Academy
The Crawford Adjuster Academy is designed to provide new adjusters with the essential training needed to succeed in the adjuster role. This program includes access to Crawford Vision, our exclusive on-demand video training platform, specific video courses must be completed BEFORE attending the in-person Xactimate & Estimating 5-Day Course (Phases 2 and 3). These foundational videos cover key concepts in estimating, policy interpretation, damage assessment, and claims handling best practices—ensuring that every participant arrives prepared to maximize their learning experience.
This academy is intended for individuals who are not currently on the Crawford Catastrophe Services roster but are seeking a structured path to enter the industry with the right training and skills to succeed.
Phases 2 and 3: Xactimate & Estimating 5-Day Course (Cost 149.00)
The Xactimate & Estimating 5-Day Course provides hands-on instruction in property estimating, damage assessment, and the use of Xactimate, the industry’s leading estimating software. This immersive training is designed for new adjusters who are not yet on the Crawford Catastrophe Services roster and want to build a strong foundation in property claims.
Course Highlights:
Xactimate Fundamentals – Navigation, sketching, estimate creation, and best practices for efficiency
Estimating Techniques – Understanding repair costs, labor and material pricing, and common estimating pitfalls
Damage Assessment – Identifying storm-related and non-storm-related damage, damage assessment, and documenting findings
Policy Application – Basics of policy interpretation, coverage considerations, and adjusting claims based on the policy
- Practical Exercises – Hands-on scoping and estimating practice, including real-world scenario-based simulations to reinforce learning and application.
This course is a critical first step for new adjusters looking to gain the knowledge and confidence needed to handle claims effectively. Combined with the Crawford Vision pre-class training, participants will be well-prepared to take on real-world property claims assignments.
Course requirements for classroom setting
Students of this course are encouraged to meet the following criteria before attending the class:
- Personal laptop with Xactimate installed (required)
- Basic computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Windows
- Base knowledge of the adjuster profession and basic understanding of damage identification and building components
What to expect
This course will be instructed by Crawford's exceptional training team. This is a 5-day class starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday. The class begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. (EST) and will end at 5:00 p.m. (EST). There will be two fifteen-minute breaks and a one-hour lunch.
Course objectives
Students of this course will be taught:
- How to read and interpret an insurance policy
- Contacting the customer and customer care tips
- Proper file documentation
- Writing scenario-based estimates using the Xactimate program (Wind/Hail damaged roofs, tree on fence estimating, elevation repairs, and interior water damage) *Some classes will include flood losses
- Xactimate estimate setup (adding coverages, deductible, price list selection, depreciation, and overhead & profit)
- Sketching roofs and interior floor plans in Xactimate (will include tools needed for complex roofs and interior sketches)
- Line item entry (Use of macros and templates)
- Xactimate Claim wrap up and reporting
- Settling the claim with the insured
- Carrier-specific processes
