Taiwan Earthquake

The earthquake struck just before 8 a.m. local time today, Wednesday, 3 April 2024.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicentre was in the Pacific Ocean around 18 km south of Hualien city. Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Centre confirmed a short time ago that there have been 101 aftershocks recorded as of 15:00 local time.

Several buildings and public facilities all over Taiwan have sustained significant damage, including many which have collapsed.

The BBC reports that the remote mountainous region of Hualien was rocked by huge landslides.
