On July 15th, a devastating tornado swept through the city of Barrie, Ontario, with winds up to 210 km/h and leaving a path of destruction about 5 kilometers long. The federal weather agency gave the storm a rating of EF-2.
With extreme weather alerts and local staff reporting high gusts of wind, Crawford & Company’s Barrie office began mobilizing staff in the morning to ensure they were prepared to assist with designated adjusters on call and ready to deploy. Additional catastrophe resources were also on alert and ready to deploy as events unfolded.
At 5:24 pm, adjusters began receiving claims and Crawford’s local adjusters began making initial contact and traveled to the site before weather events had concluded. Adjusters were armed with the latest technologies and began assisting those in need by relocating and securing properties in an effort to make sure everyone was safe and to mitigate the damages. As areas were secured and with co-operation from authorities, adjusters were able to enter the hardest-hit areas and assisted the families that were impacted the most by the storm.
