Updates
Jul 17, 2024
The recent flooding in the GTA and surrounding region has resulted in a significant increase in infrastructure and large losses. Crawford has been handling a substantial volume of claims across various business units since yesterday, with more still coming in.
Early reports are estimating that this storm will surpass the $1 billion mark. Crawford's focus is primarily on assisting with water damage claims, while insurers are handling food spoilage and power outage claims. Despite the high volume, our team remains fully operational and ready to assist.

Flash flooding in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions began early this morning, triggered by torrential rainfall. The heavy rain has caused widespread flash flooding and left more than 150,000 customers without power. Major roads, highways, and Union Station in Toronto have been closed, leading to significant disruptions for commuters. Toronto Pearson Airport recorded over 95 mm of rain in just 3.5 hours.
The storm has also impacted several other cities and communities across Ontario, including London, Oshawa, Burlington, Lindsay, Dundas, and Cambridge. We are closely monitoring the situation, though it's too early to determine exact claim numbers. The extent of damage and the path of the storm resemble the 2013 Toronto and Ontario flooding events.
Despite the severity, Crawford has maintained prompt reporting. Our contact centre operates with employees in five provinces across Canada, ensuring no interruptions in our ability to intake client claims. All of our claims offices are fully operational without any issues.

Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in parts of Western Ontario, including London and Burlington experiencing significant conditions. We are closely monitoring these situations and will provide updates as they become available.
