Dubai floods

Dubai continues to recover after severe thunderstorms dropped more than 4.7 inches of rain – the largest rainfall in the past 75 years.

The team in UAE is continuing to receive a large number of commercial, construction and manufacturing claims. The impact on manufacturing is increasing the number of business interruption claims being notified. There is also the potential for supply chain challenges over the coming weeks.

Access to damaged sites is difficult with roads and other infrastructure struggling to recover. Impassable roads have affected basic services, with supermarkets unable to restock and many employees struggling to reach their workplaces. Recent news reports showing the rainfall bursting through the ceilings of houses, restaurants, bars and shopping centres gives an indication of the conditions facing adjusters who need to visit multiple sites.

The flood water is not draining away rapidly and this is proving a major obstacle to recovery efforts. It is heavily contaminated water and our adjusters need to ensure they are following all health and safety requirements.

Crawford has already received a record number of instructions and the influx of claim notifications has not ceased yet. We have already added additional resource to our team in Dubai but we are now recruiting adjusters from Europe and the UK to assist with this unprecedented flood event.
