Cyclone Nivar formed about 360 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 420 km southeast of Chennai.
The India Meteorological Department predicts that Cyclone Nivar is very likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours while making landfall in the evening on 25 November with wind speeds of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph. It will likely cross the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram.
It has been reported that more than 30 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in the state.
