Lisa Bartlett, President, UK & Ireland, has been appointed as a Trustee of The Insurance Charities – a wonderful charity dedicated to helping people in the insurance industry experiencing financial hardship.
Each year, The Insurance Charities helps hundreds of current and former insurance employees and their families who may be struggling for any number of reasons, from ill health, depression, disability or grief to domestic abuse or redundancy.
“Adversity can affect anyone and turn their life upside down in an instant. The Insurance Charities is there to help them in their time of need,”
Lisa explains.
In 2020/2021, The Insurance Charities made 711 awards worth a total £912K to current and former insurance employees and their families, from one-off payments covering essential purchases and household repairs to ongoing financial support for those requiring healthcare, therapy, alternative accommodation or special schooling needs, for example. It also provides practical advice and support and signposts to specialist services for people experiencing significant life events.
Lisa is now Trustee of the Grants Committee, which makes the final decision on where grants or financial provisions are made. “This important charity does so much good for people in insurance. Being Trustee of the Grants Committee is a great privilege and also a great responsibility,” she says.
In addition to making its own grants, The Insurance Charities also administers the Paul Golmick and CILA Benevolent Funds, making payments to the children of long-serving insurance people and Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) members.
It has also created a dedicated service in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society to those affected by dementia, whether it is them or a loved one. This is a cause close to Crawford’s heart as a long-time supporter of Insurance United Against Dementia.
“Reading the case studies about how The Insurance Charities have supported individuals and families really resonated with me, and the fact this helps the families of CILA members makes it all the more relevant to Crawford and the adjusting community,” Lisa says.
“Crawford is committed to giving back as well as to the mental health and wellbeing of all our employees, and we are proud to support The Insurance Charities in any way we can,” she adds. “I strongly encourage others to also support this fantastic charity, whether through volunteer work or financial donations.”
