Twenty-five percent of the insurance workforce is set to retire by 2020. This impending loss of experienced personnel could leave the industry with a considerable gap in levels of expertise. Crawford & Company’s solution to proactively closing this gap is an empowering internship program that provides eligible college students and early career professionals the opportunity to contribute to its mission of restoring and enhancing lives, businesses and communities. Crawford interns are afforded the opportunity to work in real industry situations that require active participation in key projects and interaction with company leaders. Crawford’s investment in the interests, skills, and talent of interns puts them on the path to building a long-term career in the industry. In fact, many Crawford interns transition to full-time jobs after the intern program ends.
Tyler Bugbee, a TPA Solutions intern from Atlanta is one such success story. As a rising high school senior in 2015, Tyler heard about internship opportunities with Crawford & Company from a friend who had been one of the program’s first successful candidates at Broadspire. Having heard great things about Crawford and the internship, Tyler applied.
“I was immediately impressed by the culture and the forward-looking goals of the company.”
Upon entering the program, he worked with the claims department and learned the core of the insurance business. He shadowed adjusters and participated in each step of the claim process, forming a strong foundation of knowledge that he depends on to this day. In 2016, when the opportunity to work with the marketing department became available, Tyler took to the role, and not only learned, but also contributed to Crawford’s brand, market presence, and message. After only a year, the chance to put his computer science degree to work became available with the Broadspire IT team. There he excelled in his collaboration with department leaders, working on various Broadspire and RSG projects. Tyler reflects, “By contributing to projects, collaborating with my team and others, and learning the business, I quickly became an integral part of several initiatives within the IT department.”
Encouraged by SVP of Program Management, John Jakovcic, Tyler secured a full-time role as a software engineer in January of 2018. Since then, he’s become an integral part of the Crawford family, taking great pride in his work towards our mission of restoring and enhancing lives, businesses and communities. “We are a customer-focused organization that does not hesitate to innovate, improve, and inquire to reach our goals and exceed expectations. I was happy to accept a permanent position and continue the journey,” he says.
