Crawford Environmental Consulting (CEC) – our team of highly skilled environmental professionals who have been supporting the wider Crawford UK business since March 2022 – is fast establishing itself as the insurance industry’s ‘go to’ environmental offering having hit the ground running in its first year.
CEC undertakes ‘cradle to grave’ environmental investigations and remediation design, delivering detailed environmental risk assessments and technical support proportionate to risk and cover. These services were previously outsourced to suppliers who provided both consultancy and contractor services. By separating the consulting and contracting elements of an environmental claim and bringing investigation and remediation in-house, CEC gives you full control over the end-to-end customer and client journey.
Built on the founding principles of integrity, ‘value in efficiency’, empathy and customer focus, the team’s judicious management has already delivered impressive results, with claim lifecycles reduced by up to 24% per claim, indemnity costs reduced by 9-10% per claim on average, 100% of soil waste diverted from landfill disposal routes, a 14% increase in claims repudiated and the team consistently receiving 10/10 customer satisfaction scores."
The team is led by Matt Renshaw who has leveraged his 23 years’ experience in the geo-environmental sector to build an in-house environmental consultancy from scratch, creating an inclusive and empowering environment in which expert environmental consultants can thrive, with freedom to operate within clearly defined parameters.
Matt’s team of nine senior and principal environmental consultants, cherry picked from across the industry, have diverse experience in sectors including civil engineering, regulation and academia, contributing to a highly specialised and focused unit.
Their diverse specialisations include environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, soil science, chemistry, contaminated land, geotechnical engineering, bio-remediation, water quality, freshwater and terrestrial ecology. Unsurprisingly, they are never happier than when exploring the great outdoors in all weathers.
The team offers technical support across the entire Crawford business – in the UK and globally – and have guided a variety of adjusting outlets on environmental issues over the past year across a wide range of claims including flood, escape of water, fire and theft and liability.
CEC also offers insurers environmental risk consulting for environmental site audits, spill training and contingency planning, helping them identify and minimise the risk of potential environmental, property and ecological damage and/or impact to third-party property from business operations. CEC have also undertaken work on behalf of private clients including the National Trust, property and land developers, plus several national road hauliers.
Going forward, CEC will be bolstering their UK and global offering via further recruitment, as well as broadening their reach within both the insurance and private markets.
