Crawford’s mission is to restore and enhance lives so we are proud of the accomplishment of Maryanne McKenzie, a Sr. Vocational Case Manager and Care Manager for Broadspire, Crawford’s Global TPA, in Maryland.
In this case, the injured worker was diagnosed with right and left posterior labral tears and a rotator cuff strain in his right shoulder. These injuries required multiple surgeries over the course of 12 months. As a result, the injured worker was unable to return to his preinjury job as a surgical technician where he was earning US$17 per hour.
Maryanne conducted an initial vocational assessment to identify transferrable skills. Next, she completed a job search plan based on the vocational assessment. Seven days later, Maryanne placed the injured worker in an alternative job.
In his alternative job, the injured worker is working as a trash truck driver. He has two assistants who are responsible for picking up the trash bins and placing the trash in the back of the truck. Therefore, he is not required to engage in any lifting.
The injured worker was excited about his new job. Not only is he receiving full medical and dental coverage, but he is also earning US $8 per hour more than he was at his previous job.
